Father's Day lunch at FBC Lynwood

Today is the day we honored the fathers at the church with lunch.

The Silent Honor

This world has seen many fathers
Who have performed many great and noble things.

Strengthened a nation,
Silenced fears,
Relieved suffering
And changed the course of history.

Yet the most great and noble father I have known
Lives within the walls of my own home.
He performs no extraordinary tasks,
No miraculous feats;
He just does what is right because
It is right.

He needs no adulation,
No praise or glory of men.
He just goes about doing good because
That is how it makes him feel.

But there are those that see his goodness.
They are his children.
Indeed, they may not always see
But they know
That this silent honor is what they will pass on
To their children.

They know that true greatness needs no praise
It is found in the day-to-day living of unwearied goodness
They have seen their father give.
Such goodness is truly a remarkable thing,
Far greater than any glory found in the annals of history.
For one day the child will say:
'He is my father'
And know it is an honor.

Our sister church, Primera Iglesia Bautista de Lynwood is about to install a new pastor, on October 25th. Amancio Pardini came up through the ranks of the congregation and is a wonderful man, good preacher, and has a great love of the Lord. Things will be changing, I imagine, but in a good way. Our congregation considers him part of the family.

Celebrate the Resurrection

Come join us on Sunday, April 12th at 10:50a.m. for a new cantata, "Rock of Ages", performed by our Chancel Choir. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. Written around the old familiar hymn of the same name, Rock of Ages is a musical tribute to the foundation of our faith, Jesus the Christ. Hear music and testimony of how Jesus is truly our rock and foundation.

Happy New Year from First Baptist. We pray that this year will be a blessing to all, and will be filled with God's abundant joy. Drop by First Baptist and join us as we begin the New Year by recommitting our lives to Christ. On January 4th we will be sharing in our first communion of the year. We practice open communion and invite all believers in Christ to join us at His table.

Our music is provided by John McAllister on piano and Doreen Robinson on the flute. Music that uplifts the spirit! Come and worship with us!

Christmas Season

As we enter the advent season in preparation of the celebration of the birth of Christ, we invite you to join us as we sing carols, study the nativiy story, and simply enjoy the festive season.

Our services begin with Sunday School at 9:30 am, then continue with our weekly Worship Service at 10:50 am. Latecomers are always welcome. We are a casual congregation, with plenty of room for new members of the "family".

Our biggest strength is our group of prayer warriors, and we have an abundance of welcoming arms for those who need them.

Pastor's Homegoing

Pastor George Martindale was called home to our heavenly Father the night of January 24th. Pastor George had fought a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The battle is now over.

Our congregation extends our loving arms to his widow, Cynthia, his family, and his friends.

A memorial celebration was held on Sunday, January 27th in place of the normal Worship Service.

Christmas

The holiday season is upon us, and we want to remind all who call themselves Christians to reply "Merry Christmas" when someone wishes you Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings. This is the Christmas season, and the world needs to be reminded.

At First Baptist we will be celebrating Christmas on Sunday, December 23rd with a musical celebration of the nativity. Come and join us - the service starts at 10:50 am

Things have changed around First Baptist. First of all, we are no longer American Baptists. We are now part of Transformation Ministries, formerly known as American Baptists of the Pacific Southwest.

Sunday School is at 9:30 am.

Gospel Concert!

Our choir will be presenting a concert of gospel music on Sunday, September 26th at 5:00 p.m. Come out and join us as we celebrate our Lord through song. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit our American Baptist Womeen's Ministries mission work.

Refreshments will follow.

The concert was a success. The audience consisted of 8 church members and 3 guests. A small crowd, but very welcome to hear our wonderful choir.

Lizet, Mary, Colleen and Lora all did fantastic with thier solos and we look forward to having more solos from them.

We look forward to seeing more people out for the next concert, which is the Christmas Cantata on December 19th, 2004 at 10:50 a.m.
